CBD Oil Recipes: Full Spectrum CBD Pesto

Posted by Zach Attack Supplements on Feb 29th 2020

As full spectrum CBD oil becomes more popular in the culinary world, new culinary delicacies will be arriving at the table. It is exciting to experience new foods, although simply introducing a new ingredient to a classic recipe can provide just enough change. Making slight changes to popular recipes creates new flavor combinations and keeps familiarity for people who are not as adventurous.

Pesto is a great example. It is traditionally considered an uncooked sauce, but can also be used as a spread or salad dressing. It compliments a wide variety of foods including chicken, white fish, pastas and many of the summer vegetables. Basil pesto is the more commonly seen, but there are many types of pesto. The flavor is very strong, which is why adding full spectrum CBD oil is an excellent idea. CBD oil’s flavor will fit in perfectly with the strong herb and citrus flavors that the varieties of pesto have. Here are three classic pesto recipes to try with full spectrum CBD oil:

Basil Pesto

2 lg. bunches Basil, steams removed

1/2 c pine nut, walnuts or pistachios

1/2 c grated Parmesan cheese

2 cloves garlic

1 lemon, juiced

1/2 t salt

1/4 c full spectrum CBD oil from True Best CBD

1/4 c olive oil

Remove the large stems from the basil. Place basil, nuts, Parmesan, garlic and salt into a food processor and purée until smooth. Slowly add the lemon juice to allow for the mixture to move more easily creating a smoother product. Emulsify the mixture by slowly adding the two oils.

Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto

1 jar or 1 1/2 c sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil

1 c basil, steams removed

2 cloves garlic

1/4 White Wine, preferable Riesling or Traminer

1/2 c Almonds or Pistachios (other nuts can be used, but these blend the flavors better)

1/2 c Grated Manchego or Parmesan cheese

1/4 c full spectrum CBD oil

Salt and pepper to taste

The procedure is the same as basil pesto. Make sure to save the oil that the sun-dried tomatoes are packed in. The oil will be added to pesto in the final step along side the full spectrum CBD oil. If you are using dry-packed sun-dried tomatoes re-hydrate the tomatoes in almost boiling water and cover. Once softened discard the water and add 1/4 c olive oil at the end to help with emulsifying.

Arugula Pesto

2-3 c Arugula

1/2 c walnuts or another nut of your choice

2 cloves garlic

1/2 c grated Parmesan

1/4 c orange juice

1/4 c full spectrum CBD oil

1/4 c olive oil

(If available, a 1/2 c nettles can replace a 1/2 c arugula)

Again the procedure is the same.

These three recipes will make a thicker pesto that is good for spreading on chicken, a crostini, pizza dough or in a sandwich. If you would like to mix them in a pasta salad or a hot pasta dish add a little more of the liquids to thin the pesto. If you are making a hot pasta dish deglaze the the vegetables with enough wine or citrus juice so that when the pesto is added it becomes more saucy and the cheese in the pesto does not burn to the pan. Enjoy!
